Constitutional Revolution, another Perspective" at Malek Museum
Beginning Thursday August 5, 2010, an exhibition titled "Constitutional Revolution, another Perspective" is held at Malek National Museum and Library, commemorating the anniversary of issuing the constitution decree in 1906, Malek Public Relations reports.
In a series of public protests during the reign of Mozaffar ad-Din Shah Qajar, Iranian people demanded the establishment of a National Consultative Assembly, and presented the issue as their most essential demand along with four other requests to Mozaffar ad-Din Shah, asking for a constitutional government. After a long struggle and widespread protests in the country, Mozaffar ad-Din Shah was forced to accept the people's wish and issue the decree for the constitution on August 7, 1906.
Malek Library holds a book from that era, which is considered a historical document. Pictures of this manuscript are now on display for the general public in form of a visual exhibition. The book was written and compiled by Mohammad Mehdi Sharif Kashani in the lunar year 1333, in 359 pages in Nastaliq calligraphy on imported paper, adorned with pictures of distinguished political figures and religious leaders of the constitutional revolution.
A constitutionalist himself, Kashani has used telegrams, letters, revolutionary leaflets and announcements to authenticate his book, along with pictures of pro/anti constitution figures such as Eyn-o-doleh, Alaa-o-doleh and many others, all photographed by Gholam-Reza Khan the Photographer.
Considering its extensive collection of documents and pictures as well as documented reports from the constitution era, Kashani's book is believed to be one of the valuable and significant works in reviewing the history of the constitutional revolution and the social transformations in contemporary Iran.
The exhibition of "Constitutional Revolution, another Perspective" will be running for two weeks, at the interim venue of Malek National Museum located in Imam Khomeini square.
